non-stress tests and ultrasounds

I apologize, faithful readers, for my delayed post.  I have a beautiful baby!  10 pounds!!!  The only problem is, he/she is still inside my belly.  We had out non-stress test on Thursday and it was easy.  I just laid there while these monitors hooked up to my belly measured the baby’s heart rate.  He passed with flying colors.  Everything looked great.  Because I still didn’t have my baby by this morning, Adam and I went into the hospital to get a bio-rhythmic exam.  The only appointment they had available was at 7:15 in the morning!  I haven’t gotten up that early in weeks.  The bio-rhythmic exam was just like an ultrasound except that my baby was being graded.  There were 8 points possible and, I am proud to say, my little one got an 8 out of 8!  The only shocker was when the doctor told me that he weighed around 10 lbs 2 oz (the baby not the doctor)!!!! Give or take a pound!!!!  I almost cried until Adam pointed out that it was all in his belly.  His head is actually smaller than a full term child.  My midwife thinks they might be wrong – we’ll know soon enough.  I’m just worried that I’ll have to go to the hospital and they will see that I have a 10 pound baby and automatically do a C-section.

I met with my midwife after the bio-rhythmic profile (and a 2 hour nap) and she stripped my membrane again.  It didn’t dilate any more, but it did give me contractions for about an hour.  She also gave me some homeopathic herbs to take to help induce labor.  If this doesn’t work, I do another non-stress test on Sunday and get Castor Oil.  I’m really hoping these herbs work.

I also found out that all the Braxtin Hicks contractions that I thought I’d been having were really real contractions that just didn’t hurt!  Yea for an easy labor so far 🙂

I’m going to have a baby tonight – everyone needs to think these positive thoughts.  I really don’t want to go to the hospital.

Hi all three of you, Tonight is THE night. I know that everyone and their brother has been humoring you and telling you that it is going to happen, but my psychic ability says that some time late tonight, labor is going to get going. Or your water will break (which by the way, it always sort of shocked me that when it breaks, it just keeps going… before mine came I always thought it was like a water balloon breaking and then somehow that would be that, but it is more like leaking, okay maybe that is too much info, sorry!) In Ashland there are at least 5 people who are thinking their most positive birth thoughts for you, so you better curl up with a good book and take a nap. I think I am going to be a great Aunt this weekend. That is so exciting! HUGS to all of you! V and the gang

Oh PS– Don’t worry at all about how much they estimate the baby’s weight. They were wrong on every single one of ours and our tiniest was 8 lb 6 and biggest was 10 lb 10 oz. You are going to do just fine. Just remember to get zen-like through the contractions and they will be easier.
    Thinking about you!
